Study of the frequency distribution of burn causes in children in need of hospitalization in Isfahan province

Title: Epidemiology of admitted childhood burns etiology – Isfahan - IRAN
Introduction:
Iran has a young population and burns in children younger than 6 years are prevalent. 1/3 of Burns mortality occurs in children younger than 15 years old. some etiology like hot water that is simply preventable is the most etiology in children. In this survey, we study the burn etiology in admitted children younger than 15 years old.
Material and Method:
This is a descriptive study. All the files of patients that were admitted from March 1998 to March 2000 were checked. The child profiles that were younger than 15 years entered the study.
Results:
The total number of burned patients was 2229 that 1014(45.5%) were children younger than 15 years. 60.1% wear men and 39.8% were women. Hot water was the most common etiology (51.8 %). The most common age was 3 to 6 years old. 65.8 % of patients, lived-in the city, and 34.1 % live in the village. the mortality rate was 5.5%.
Conclusion:
Burns in children is common like the other country. Burns is more common in cities than in villages so we must educate the parents in city health centers. The child that burns with flame must be supported especially because they admitted longer and have more extent burns.
